The Timber Tenures Forester provides professional specialist services and senior professional policy and operational advisory services to the South Area. This position ensures consistency in the delivery of programs across the area (policy and linkages to operational activities) and provides operational and decision support to senior government decision makers. This position cross-trains with, and provides full support for, the South Area Pricing Section.

Job Requirements:
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
  • Timber tenures administration experience.
  • Experience identifying linkages in issues, determining cause and effect and providing sound advice to statutory decision makers.
  • Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in natural resource management and forest tenure administration in BC.
  • Experience drafting or preparing a variety of complex technical written reports, analyses, briefings, policy drafts and other documentation in accordance with the regulatory or legislative requirements or guidelines.
  • Experience working with key statutes and policies that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting with partners and stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Experience managing concurrent and complex priorities to produce results within restrictive timeframes.


Preference may be given for one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience briefing senior management/statutory decision makers either written or orally.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary groups and projects in natural resource management.
  • At least three (3) years of experience with current appraisals, timber pricing policy and procedures.


Provisos:
  • Travel will be required.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent.
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available in the South Area (100 Mile House, Clearwater, Cranbrook, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Kamloops, Nelson, Merritt, Quesnel, Vernon, or Williams Lake).
Flexible work options are available; these positions may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
