Director of Finance

Who- the Company:
Our client is a respected mid-sized Vancouver-based real estate developer. They have active entities under various business lines and have several projects under construction and in the pipeline. This company has created a culture that is collaborative, entrepreneurial, and genuine.

What- the Role:  
Our client is looking for a new Director of Finance who will be with the company for many years. This is a great leadership role for someone who enjoys diversity in their day-to-day responsibilities, and who can be both strategic and hands-on.  The DoF will have 4+ direct reports on the accounting & finance team… accountants at various levels of seniority, some CPA-designated, some not.

What- the Responsibilities:
This role entails a wide scope of responsibilities within accounting and corporate finance, including

• Leading, mentoring, and training the accounting and finance team
• Managing month/quarter/year-end, including liaising with the external audit team
• Financial Reporting- internal and external, routine and ad hoc… for internal stakeholders, external investors, and lenders/banks
• Budgeting and Forecasting
• Cashflow Analysis
• Financial Planning and Analysis, including financial modeling and what-if analysis
• Strategic planning, operational planning, and business decision support
• Overseeing the work of the accounting team, including inter-company AP and AR, bank reconciliation, bank draws, and tax return preparation.
• Creating and monitoring internal controls
• Project reporting and KPI tracking
• System optimization
• Process improvement projects

Who- the Candidate: S
wim Recruiting has been engaged to identify candidates who are well-qualified for the role and who are also a great match for the company’s culture. Candidates will hold their CPA designation and will have at least 10 years and likely 12+ years relevant and progressive accounting & finance experience.
We are looking for someone who is a natural leader who thrives on mentoring and developing their team. The DoF will also enjoy collaborating closely with senior leaders in all departments.
Recent experience working in a real estate development company is highly preferred, although perhaps not required for someone truly passionate about real estate who is eager to join the industry for the long-term and who can learn the complex business quickly (must still have work experience from a relevant industry, such as hospitality or retail).  
Strong financial system skills, including Excel-based analytical skills.
Candidates for this role will be happy and comfortable working full-time in the Vancouver office.

Where:  
Vancouver. The new Director of Finance will work full-time in a beautiful corporate office with an inviting work environment and plenty of space for collaboration and socializing. There is free employee parking provided.

How Much:
The company will provide their Director of Finance with a competitive base salary in the range of $140,000 to $190,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The DoF will also receive health benefits, a discretionary performance-based bonus, CPA support, 4 weeks paid vacation, etc. Please discuss your total compensation expectations with SWIM.
